Four Romanians Injured In Allegedly Racist-Driven Attack In Rome

The restaurant, located in the Porta Furba region, a short distance from where a 14 year old Italian girl was raped Saturday, allegedly by East European Romas, was reportedly attacked by a group of hooded assailants, armed with wooden bats.

At the time of the assault, around ten Romanians were in the restaurant. Four of them were injured by 10-15 hooded youths, who used their bats to smash the windows of the restaurant. Two of the victims had minor injuries and were treated on the spot, but the other two had to be taken to the San Giovanni hospital, on account of their concussions.

Italian police have begun an investigation, especially as a demonstration by far-right organization Forza Nuova had taken place nearby. The protest was directed against the rape committed Saturday in Caffarella Park. The victim was a 14 year old Italian girl, and the police suspect that the aggressors were East European Romas.

After the January 22 rape in the Guidonia suburb of Rome, which saw the arrest of six Romanians, the Italian capital has been the stage of several attacks against Romanian-owned stores or restaurants frequented by Romanian immigrants.
