The drug haul was found with the help of Romanian authorities, as it was linked with 1,204 kilograms of cocaine seized in southern port Agigea, judicial sources told MEDIAFAX Friday.

Head of the Organized Crime Bureau in Constanta, Aurelian Pavel, said the 1,200 kilograms of cocaine had a high concentration and were to be sent to labs to be processed. The drugs were sent to Bucharest for analysis. Their value reaches tens of millions of euros, if they were to be sold on the market.

Nearly one ton of cocaine was found in the container lying since December 2008 in port Constanta Sud – Agigea, southern Romania, Pavel said last Friday.

Following information from the authorities in Bucharest, the Brazilian investigators seized 3.03 tons of cocaine, which was tied to last week’s cocaine haul in Constanta, the quoted sources said.

Pavel said an organized crime network of Romanian and foreign citizens is linked to this case, and the police is questioning several people involved.

Pavel added police officers have been monitoring this case for nearly three months to discover the organized crime network.

According to police sources, the container came from Brazil in December and the customs documents show it contained fir wood.

The drug haul in Brazil is one of the most significant in the country, and was found following joint investigation of the Brazilian police and Interpol.

The police said the lumber shipment came from the state Sao Paolo, Globo said.

The Parana police on Tuesday arrested Charles Robert Dezero, one of Brazil’s top drug dealers suspected of distributing half a ton of cocaine in one month.
