Ciobotea said the 160 people, who are over 60 years old, had left with Travel Filip on a pilgrimage to Lourdes and had paid EUR475 each for accommodation in several locations. Reaching a camping site south of Paris Thursday evening, the tourists were told they had no reservations and accommodation had not been paid.

The tourists contacted the embassy, and Romanian authorities managed to accommodate 110 of them in the respective camping site, for EUR20 per person, which the tourists paid. The camping site had no more room for the remaining 50, who were offered to stay in a hotel over night, for EUR30 per person. However, as it was already 3 a.m., they refused and stayed in the tour bus until morning.

Ciobotea added Romanian authorities discussed with the owner of the camping site, who promised to send the embassy all correspondence he exchanged with Travel Filip.

Ciobotea added the group of pilgrims includes 400, but only 160 had accommodation trouble. He added the embassy is in close contact with the group and is taking all the necessary steps to help them.
