The company was also handed a penal fine of RON2.6 million and ordered to pay damages towards 128 clinics and hospitals it supplied with its products, while all of its revenue from the sale of disinfectants will also be confiscated.

HexiPharma director Flori Dinu was sentenced to three years in prison, while production director Mihail Leva was handed a prison sentence of three years and eight months.

The decision is not final and can be appealed.

The disinfectant producer became notorious in 2016, after a press investigation revealed that it supplied clients with chemically-diluted products, which endangered the prevention of diseases in hospitals and thus indirectly caused numerous nosocomial infections.

Between June 2010 and May 2016, the company misled representatives of more than 340 clinics by presenting fictitious concentrations and efficacy of substances from its products. It also stated higher concentrations of the substances on labels than were effectively included in the products.

HexiPharma was charged with 340 counts of deceit, 61 counts of forgery and improper participation in thwarting disease prevention.

Shortly after the outburst of diluted disinfectants scandal, HexiPharma owner Dan Condrea died in a car crash in May 2016, which was officially ruled a suicide.
