Vice-president of Romania’s National Liberal Party, Puiu Hasotti, told MEDIAFAX Sunday that Prime Minister Emil Boc and President Traian Basescu have agreed to increase the budget of the presidency, so that the head of state could afterwards ask the Government and the Parliament to lower his budget.

“The increase of the presidency’s budget is a diversion and a populist measure, to offer the president a higher budget, so that the president asks the Government and the Parliament for a lower one,” Hasotti said.

He sad he is convinced of this thing.

According to the draft state budget for 2009, the staff expenses of the Presidential Administration increased by 19.2%, to 13.6 million from 11.4 million, while costs for goods and services are seen up 76%, to 28.9 million from 16.4 million.

Capital expenses of the presidency will increase nearly 2%, to 3.5 million, according to the draft budget.
