Nearly 400 Passengers Protest On Bucharest Intl Airport

The group of passengers protested fiercely after having waited nearly 36 hours in the airport, as the airline announced only passengers who had rescheduled would be boarded.

The flight is set to take off at 15:00.

Nearly 400 passengers of low cost airliner Wizz Air for London flights protested Friday on the airport, as no one had told them anything neither about the flight that was supposed to leave for London Thursday morning, nor the same flight on Friday morning.

Airport spokesperson Valentin Iordache told the passengers that the airliner, and not the airport, is responsible for their situation. He added one of the flights would leave shortly.

Iordache said the passengers scheduled to fly this morning would board.

The airliner’s public relations representative, Daniel Amzar, said the flight off Otopeni for London would board passengers scheduled for this morning, adding the flight for Thursday had been cancelled.

Amzar also said he has no idea why people stayed in the airport, adding they had been told they had three possibilities: get their money back, use the ticket as an “account” for another trip or reschedule the flight.

Outraged, passengers protested. One passenger said his daughter had to be in London on Thursday to start work.

Another passenger said people were boarded on a plane Thursday evening, at 21:30, where they stayed until close to midnight, and then taken back to the airport.

Passengers also said they did not receive food or water, had no place to sleep and had to sit on the airport floor tiles.

Passengers of flights that got cancelled had threaten to block access to the airport if their situation were not solved shortly.
