Romanians trust firefighters, the church and the military, while the President, Parliament, Government and political parties register the lowest level of popularity, according to a survey conducted by sociological research company CCSB and ordered by NGO “Pro Democratia.”

Most Romanians Distrust Presidency, Parliament, Govt, Parties - Survey

Most Romanians (89%) trust firefighters, the church (80%), the military (73%), the gendarmerie (63%), the media (61%), survey institutes (57%), city/town hall (55%) and police department (55%).

Fewer Romanians trust the Romanian Intelligence Service (40%), Ombudsman (34%), non-government organizations (33%), trade unions (32%), justice system (29%) and banks (25%).

Romanians have the least trust in the Presidency (17%, down from 48% according to a survey in February 2009), the Parliament (14%, down from 20%), the Government (13%, down from 26%) and political parties (12%, down from 14%).

Pro Democratia president Cristian Parvulescu said confidence in the Presidency has never been so low. Generally, around half the population trusted this institution at any time, except during former President Emil Constantinescu's term (1996-2000).

The study was conducted between September 23 and 28 by CCSB on a sample of 1,017 people, with an error margin of +/- 3.1%
