Nearly One Third Of Romanians Would Migrate If Given The Chance- Poll

Britons' relatively high level of desire to migrate permanently cannot be attributed to the recent global economic crisis or the country's own recession, the survey reads, as the 33% who say they would like to move is the same now as in 2008, when the country entered recession.

However, among Britons who say they would like to migrate, only 2% say they are planning to move in the next 12 months, a percentage much lower than in many other places in the European Union. For Romania, this percentage is at 11%, which ranks the country eighth, on a par with Ireland.

The most eager to leave their country in the next 12 months are Spaniards (15%), Portuguese (14%), Hungarians and Luxembourgers (13%), Bulgarians and Lithuanians (12%).

The survey is based on interviews with approximately 1,000 adults, aged 15 and older, and was conducted between May and August 2010 in EU member countries. The error margin ranges between 3.5 and 4 percentage points.
