No Data To Prove Prosecutors Collaborated With Securitate - Kovesi
Romania’s general prosecutor Laura Codruta Kovesi Tuesday said she holds no information regarding prosecutors who may have collaborated with the former communist police, stating that since she took over the position she received no intimations in this respect.
1 viewKovesi said that when a prosecutor wishes to occupy a management position, according to the law, they must give a self-statement regarding their collaboration with the former communist Securitate, statement that can be verified if the High Council of Magistrates requests it.
Last week, president Basescu said that 25% of magistrates are former Securitate members.
In response, Lidia Barbulescu, president of the Romanian High Council of the Magistrates, said that these statements "brings unusual damage" to the image of judges and prosecutors.
