Number Of Assistance Requests To Leave Gaza Rose To 32 – Romanian Affairs Ministry

The Romanian Foreign Affairs Ministry is organized to offer non-stop assistance to Romanians who want to leave the conflict area in Gaza, Diaconescu said.

He added if among the people asking for evacuation from the Gaza Strip there are Palestinian citizens married to Romanian women, Romania’s embassies in Tel Aviv and Cairo will ensure the issuing of the necessary documents, and will takeover data by fax or rapid mail.

Diaconescu called for calm and guaranteed that the ministry and the Romanian diplomatic missions are ready to provide non-stop consulate assistance.

"Practically, we’ve adopted all necessary measures to support Romanian citizens, the Romanian Embassy has been receiving evacuation requests, and continues to do so. Based on these requests, a list will be sent to the Israeli authorities,” Diaconescu said.

According to him, the Romanian citizens must provide the following information: family name, given name, the number of the Romanian identification document, date of birth, the number of the Palestinian identification document and a contact number.

The minister said Romanian authorities benefit from Israel’s full support in their activity, which was confirmed, according to Diaconescu, during today’s meeting with Israeli Ambassador to Bucharest, David Oren.

Diaconescu said the Romanian Embassy in Amman is informed with regard to ensuring exit from Israel, and Jordan will ensure transit to the citizens evacuated from the Gaza Strip.

Romanian citizens are transported to the Jordan frontier, where they are taken over by the Romanian Embassy in Amman.

The 32 people who have already left the Gaza Strip reached Jordan, but did not remain there and transited the territory to other destinations, the minister said, but he could not tell exactly how many would come to Romania.

The minister said actions are taken to unblock the Rafah crossing, but the situation is “complicated”.

Previously, Diaconescu said the Romanian Embassy in Tel Aviv received 29 consulate assistance requests for repatriation, of which eight came from Romanian adults and two from Palestinian adults and 19 children.

Repatriation requests for six families, totaling 34 people, have already been processed.

The Foreign Affairs Ministry had announced Friday noon two families, totaling nine people, asked for assistance in leaving the Gaza Strip from the Romanian authorities in Tel Aviv. Six of them are children, official sources told MEDIAFAX Friday.

According to an official statement, the Foreign Affairs Ministry recommends Romanian citizens in the Gaza Strip to contact the Romanian Embassies in Tel Aviv and Cairo to start procedures to leave the territory.

The ministry said it is ready to give assistance to Romanian citizens who want to leave the Gaza Strip.

The team of the Romanian Consulate in Tel Aviv was consolidated to manage efficiently the requests coming from Romanian citizens, the statement said.
