Over 400 Romanians Live In Mexico, Tourist No Unknown - FM

Romanian Foreign Ministry on Monday said that over 400 Romanians are currently residing in Mexico, but the figures might be higher when adding tourists.

“Because the Romanian nationals who live or travel abroad do not notify the Romanian diplomatic missions and consulates, we cannot give an exact figure of the citizens who are in Mexico,” the ministry said in a statement.

Earlier Monday, the ministry recommended Romanians to avoid traveling to Mexico, following the swine flu outbreak which is blamed for 81 deaths in the country since April 13.

Spain was the first European country to confirm a swine flu case in a 23-old patient who had recently returned from Mexico.

In Romania, the national sanitary and veterinary authority ANSVSA announced a series of preemptive measures, including increased bio-security controls in farms and households.
