Over 60% Of Romanian Townspeople See Country Stuck In Crisis For Another 1-5 Yrs – Poll

Romanians' perception toward the economic crisis has worsened significantly, compared with last year, as the share of respondents expecting the country to get back on track in maximum one year has shrunk to 9% in April-May 2010, compared to 30% in May-June 2009.

Three in ten Romanians think the country will make it out of the crisis in one up to two years and 32% of respondents said the country will come out of the crisis only in three up to five years. Mid-2009, 55% of Romanians said the crisis will last one up to five years. Moreover, the recent turmoil at economic and political level has stirred tensions among people and prompted 22% of Romanians to think the country needs more than six years to make it out of the crisis, compared with only 9% mid-2009.

The survey shows that age is another aspect with impact on Romanians' perception toward the economic crisis, as elderly people think the crisis will last many years.

According to the survey, the top three most burdensome expenses include utility costs, according to over 60% of respondents, costs with food products (51% of respondents), and costs with media services, including cable TV, mobile and fixed telephony, internet (22%), children upbringing (20%), as well as costs with monthly loan installments (19%).

The survey was conducted during April- May 2010 on a sample of 80 respondents aged 16 to 64, living in urban areas.
