Simona Panaitescu, head of the Administration Monitoring Stray Dogs, on Tuesday presented the results obtained by the National Cantacuzino Research and Development Institute for Microbiology and Immunology, following tests on over 100 stray dogs to track leptospirosis.

Panaitescu said 38 of the 103 tested dogs were infected with the leptospira virus, stressing this situation calls for amendments to current laws so that stray dogs, although neutered, will no longer be left on the streets, where they will keep attacking people.

Atanasoaei urged local authorities to take measures meant to isolate stray animals, not kill them.
