„PEOP is becoming more and more interesting, since authorities in Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan want to value their resources… I believe Croatia will take a second look at the project and Italy will be very interested as well,” Videanu told an energy seminar organized by Ziarul Financiar newspaper.

Romania might become a transit country and a crude processing location, he added.

PEOP, backed several years ago by Croatia, Serbia and Italy, was intented to transport crude oil from the Constanta harbor in southeast Romania to Trieste, in Italy.

Videanu went on saying the Nabucco gas pipeline remains a priority for Romania, but local authorities want to develop other energy projects as well, in the southern European corridor.

„AGRI is not competing with any other project on the southern corridor. Nabucco remains Romania’s priority. Romania is firmly committed to the projects backed by the EU, but is also pushing some projects on its own,” Videanu said.

AGRI is a project backed by Georgia, Azerbaijan and Romania, meant to transport gas from the Caspian Sea to the Western European markets.
