Partial Results: Independent Candidate Leading Elections For Bucharest Mayor

Romanian elections officials Monday said independent candidate Sorin Oprescu is leading the race for Bucharest mayor seat with 30.4% of the votes, ahead of main rival Vasile Blaga (Democratic Liberal Party), who gained 28.1% of the votes, according to the latest partial results.

The members of the municipal electoral office in Bucharest finished counting the votes cast at 751 polling places out of total 1,181.

Oprescu or Blaga need 50% plus one of the total votes cast to avoid a runoff.

Overall turnout at polling places in Bucharest was of 31.14% of registered voters, according to the partial results published at 6 pm, local time.
