Rasnov mayor Adrian Vestea said the company that administered the castle until 2007 built the balcony without a feasibility research.

Vestea told MEDIAFAX the castle will be closed for visitors until a commission of the Culture Ministry comes to investigate the causes of the accident.

Vestea said the balcony was built by S.C. Drumuri publicitare S.R.L, which administered the castle between 2000 and 2007, without making a resistance research.

A similar accident occurred in March, when two parts of Rasnov castle's old fortification collapsed.

The head of the culture department within Rasnov City Hall, Nicolae Pepene, accused back then the former associate of the city hall of making illegal works that caused damages to the castle's fortification.

Culture Minister Theodor Paleologu said in May, during a visit in Rasnov when the UNESCO center for tourists was inaugurated, that the ministry would send a commission to investigate the state of Rasnov fortress.

According to Paleologu, the commission will be made up of five members - architects, archeologists and patrimony experts.

At the moment, Rasnov fortress is administered by local authorities.
