Romania’s Foreign Ministry advised Romanian citizens to avoid trips to Mexico, unless absolutely necessary, following swine flu cases caused by a potentially deadly virus, which is transmitted between people.

Romania FM Calls On Romanians To Steer Clear Of Mexico Over Swine Flu Outbreak

 

The ministry said in its press release Monday that no Romanian citizen has been affected by swine flu so far and advised Romanian citizens in Mexico and those who must go to Mexico, to steer clear of crowded places, use protection masks, stick to personal hygiene rules and see a doctor in early flu-like symptoms.
 
The swine flu symptoms are similar to common influenza, namely, high temperature, sore throat, coughing and fever, which can lead to pneumonia in only two to three days.
 
More than 100 people in Mexico are believed to have died from the new flu and more than 1,600 sickened, prompting widespread school closures and other measures.
 
The United States declared a swine flu outbreak a public health emergency as officials confirmed 20 cases in five US states and warned that they expected more in the coming days.
 
Suspected swine flu cases were being tested in Europe, the Middle East and Asia, after the new strain gain attention out of Mexico last week.
 
Health officials in Canada have reported a total of six confirmed cases of the potentially deadly virus.
 
The World Health Organization Director-General Margaret Chan on Sunday said the outbreak had "pandemic potential" and held teleconferences with staff and flu experts around the world, urging governments to step up their surveillance of suspicious outbreaks.
