Romania July Constr Output Posts Largest Monthly Fall In EU

Eurostat's seasonally adjusted data showed construction output in Romania fell 9% in July compared with June, from an 8.8% growth in the previous month.

Construction output in the EU bloc dropped by 1.1% in July from the month earlier, when it fell 0.8%.

Poland, Sweden and Portugal were the only countries that reported monthly growths in construction output in July, of 5.2%, 1.7% and 0.2%, respectively.

Aside from Romania, two other states posted substantial monthly declines in July, namely Slovenia (-4.6% compared with June) and Spain (-4.1%).

Year-on-year, European construction output dropped by 11.1% in July, with Spain and Slovenia posting the biggest declines, of -20.5% on the year each.

Romania followed on the third spot with a decrease of 17.5% in July compared with the same month of 2008.

Poland and Germany saw the only annual increases in construction output, of 10.6% and 1.9%, respectively.
