The president wished to highlight the fact that from a strategic, security and evolution point of view, the number one priority for Romania is to start accessing European funds.

Basescu said that between 2007 and 2013 Romania is to receive EUR32 billion in EU funds, money that cannot be spent “due to lack of projects.”

The official said the government is not the only authority to blame, as there has been a delay in the negotiation with the EU of the seven operational projects, process that ended in the fall of 2007.

The president concluded by stating he hopes 2008 will be the year in which people start accessing European funds.
