Romania’s Contribution To 2010 EU Budget Reduced By EUR24.8M

The EC said the surplus will be deducted from the EU member states' contributions to the 2010 budget.

Romania had its EUR1.408 billion contribution to the 2010 EU budget reduced by EUR24.8 million.

According to the EC, the reduction is calculated on the basis of each country's gross national income.

Janusz Lewandowski, EU Commissioner for Financial Programming and Budget, said "the low level of leftover funds in 2009 demonstrates that we direct EU funds efficiently where agreed needs lie and that every euro paid into the EU budget is used for the benefit of our citizens".

The 2010 EU budget was approved in December 2009 and totals EUR141.4 billion, according to the EC.
