Romania’s Govt Declassifies Over 7,000 Secret Documents Regarding 1989 Revolution

Romania’s Government decided during a meeting Wednesday to declassify several documents regarding the December 1989 anticommunist Revolution, and the documents will be published in the Official Journal, Government secretary general Daniela Andreescu told MEDIAFAX.

Romania’s Govt Declassifies Over 7,000 Secret Documents Regarding 1989 Revolution

Andreescu said the declassification of the documents regarding the anticommunist revolution was made at the request of the Defense Ministry, adding both the Government decision and the respective documents will be published in the Official Journal.

Romanian Defense Minister Gabriel Oprea told MEDIAFAX the Government decided to declassify 7,617 secret documents.

The ministry said in a press release the Government agreed to declassify secrete documents issued by the Defense Ministry as their declassification can no longer endanger the national security, public order or any private interests.

Oprea said Monday he was unfolding legal procedures so that certain secrete files regarding the 1989 Revolution be declassified, after 1,989 other secrete documents regarding the event were declassified on January 15.
