Romania’s Online Advertising Market 1H Sales Estimated At RON25.5M

Romania’s online advertising market generated sales of about 25.5 million lei (EUR1=RON4.2459), in the first half of 2009, down 25% compared to the same interval last year, and up 58% compared to the first half of 2007, according to Romanian Online Advertising Study (ROADS).

Romania’s Online Advertising Market 1H Sales Estimated At RON25.5M

The research made by IAB Romania (Interactive Advertising Bureau Romania, www.iab-romania.ro) and PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) Romania considered the direct sales of the biggest 14 companies in the online advertising sector.

These companies total sales reported in the first half of 2009 stood at RON25,498,023, down 25% compared to the same interval last year when they reported sales totaling RON33,873,413, and up 58% compared to the first half of 2007 (RON16,141,519).

The financial/banking and auto sectors had the main contribution to the decline of online advertising investments in the first half of 2009. The telecom sector ranks first by the volume of online advertising investments that saw an increase of 75% compared to the first half of 2008 and of 3% compared to the second half of 2008.

"The first 2009 report made by IAB Romania and PricewaterhouseCoopers also presents the effects the crisis had on the online advertising market, although the internet seems to be the least affected among all advertising media. The most affected sectors were the financial/bank and auto sector. We are confident the report for the second half of 2009 will show a revival of the online advertising market," IAB Romania president Cristian Petriceanu said.

The next edition of the survey conducted by IAB Romania and PricewaterhouseCoopers will begin to collect data starting 2010 and will comprise analyses relevant for the second half of 2009 and a complete analysis of 2009, as well as data on the online advertising market over the past three years.

IAB Romania was founded in 2006 and includes the biggest companies operating on the online publicity market. IAB Romania aims to protect and promote investments made on the online market.
