The Romanian Union of Plastic Artists was informed last Thursday about the decision, and made efforts to settle an agreement to move the furniture, archives and works of art.

Bucharest’s former mayor Adriean Videanu has already signed to give the building back to the owners who have a forged inheritance act, the head of the artists’ union, Dumitru Serban, told MEDIAFAX.

He also said that the Ministry of Culture did not take advantage of the legal right to buy the respective building before the retrocession and that he asked the Government to find a solution for a proper residence for the Union.

He added that the Union was temporarily given other two locations in Bucharest.

Meanwhile, the artists are evacuating the building, moving furniture, works of art and archives dating back from 1920, which will be transported to several art galleries.

The retrocession of the building was based on Law no. 10 regarding the legal status of buildings taken over abusively during the communist regime.
