Romania To Sign Declaration On Access To Visa Waiver Program In Washington

The Romanian ambassador to the United States of America will sign Monday a statement which will facilitate Romania’s access to the Visa Waiver Program and which will ultimately lead to the elimination of visas for Romanian citizens travelling to USA, the Foreign Affairs Ministry said Friday.

“The statement between the Romanian Interior Ministry and the Department of Homeland Security of the United States of America regarding the cooperation principles for the consolidation of the bilateral security measures for international trips and for the fulfillment of the conditions of the Visa Waiver program” will be signed in Washington, the ministry announced Monday.

Adrian Vierita, the Romanian ambassador to the United States of America, and U.S. secretary for homeland security Michael Chertoff will sign the declaration, the ministry informed.

By signing the statement, both governments commit to implement a set of measures meant to ease Romania’s access to the Visa Waiver Program. It also confirms that the process leading to the elimination of visas for Romanian citizens, for business trips, short-term trips and in touristic interest continues, the ministry said in a press release.

The Romanian and American authorities will cooperate to adopt the measures agreed upon, while Romania’s access to the Visa Waiver Program will be carried out after all conditions stipulated by the American legislation have been met, the ministry concluded.
