Romania’s foreign affairs minister Adrian Cioroianu said Monday in Brussels that Romania is not likely to be among the first states to recognize the independence of Serbian province Kosovo.

"It is still too early to draw any final conclusions, but I stand by that statement – I don’t think Romania will be among the first countries to recognize a potentially independent Kosovo. Of course, that decision will be made nationally," BBC quoted Cioroianu as saying.
 
Britain’s European affairs minister Jim Murphy said the province deserves its independence, but it needs to be organized and watched. Murphy added more than 20 European states are willing to recognize and independent Kosovo.
 
The BBC noted that Greece, Cyprus, Spain, Slovakia and Romania fear that Kosovo’s unilateral independence would encourage separatists in the Balkans to do the same.
 
A new round of negotiations in Brussels to decide the future status of the southern Serbian province, whose independence Belgrade fiercely opposes, is to take place Tuesday.
