Becali’s statement is almost identical to the one submitted in October 2008, when he ran for a seat in the Romanian Parliament, except for a new EUR12 million loan, from Becali to businessman Dumitru Bucsaru.

Becali, who is running for MEP office on the lists of the Greater Romania Party, owns, according to his wealth statement, hundreds of hectares of land and hundreds of apartments. Alone, or together with a relative or associate, he owns ten plots of land. Three of them are in the commune of Voluntari, three in Bucharest and a plot each in Pitesti, Balotesti, Braila and Otopeni. Becali’s statement says he acquired the property either through sale-purchases contracts, or through “cession of rights.”

Becali owns a jewelry collection worth EUR50,000, acquired in 1996, and a watch collection, all acquired in 2005, worth EUR250,000.

Other assets include a social home building in Zimnicea, worth around EUR1 million, and six other five storey buildings, worth over EUR80 million.

No one who owed Becali money in 2008 has repaid their debt. The list of his debtors and the amounts they owe have remained the same as on October 20, 2008, but the new list includes Mitica Bucsaru, who Becali “forgot” to put on 2008’s list. Becali stands to receive EUR70 million from various people.

According to his wealth statement, Becali has not received a gift worth more than EUR300, has no “income from other sources” and no “income from awards or gambling.” The statement is signed and dated April 8.

The new statement makes a change from last year’s document, as Becali does not affirm his status as president of the New Generation Party. He is a shareholder, with the same participation as last year, of five companies. Becali owns 69.098% of Avicola Iasi, 71.66% of Arcom SA, 90.907% of Uzina Mecanica Dragasani, 26% of Steaua FC and 59.79% of Romes.
