Romanian Carmaker Dacia Sees Biggest Sales Increase Of 51.4% On French Market In ‘09

Registrations of Romanian new Dacia cars and light commercial vehicles in France registered the biggest increase in 2009 of 51.4%, to 65,956 units, according to the Committee of French Automobile Constructors (CCFA).

Romanian Carmaker Dacia Sees Biggest Sales Increase of 51.4% On French Market In ‘09

The market share of Romanian carmaker Dacia in France rose from 1.7% in 2008 to 2.5%.

According to the number of registrations in 2009, Dacia outran Nissan (52,249 units), Audi (49,703), BMW (43,566), Hyundai and Kia (43,138), Seat (38,811) or Suzuki (29,631), and got close to Mercedes (67,794 units).

In December 2009, Dacia sold 9,336 new commercial vehicles, compared to 4,393 units in the same interval in 2008, and thus Dacia's market share was of 3.5%, up 1.1%.

Registration of new Dacia cars rose by 39.5% in 2009 to 60,719 units, and by 96% in December, compared to the same month in 2008. On the car sector, Dacia had a 2.7% market share in 2009 and a 3.8% market share in December.

French carmaker Renault's registration of cars and light commercial vehicles rose by 7.9% in 2009, to 687,978 units, so that the French carmaker had a market share of 26%, and by 86.4% in December to 73,058 units.

Renault's main French competitor PSA Peugeot Citroen had a market share of 32.2% in 2009, and car registrations rose by 7.1%, reaching 850,764 units.

Volkswagen reported the biggest number of new car registrations in 2009, of 269,912 units, up 3.8%. The German carmaker had a 10.2% market share.

The total number of registrations of new cars and light commercial vehicles in France increased by 5.3% last year, to 2.642 million units, of which 2.268 million units were passenger cars.
