"Everybody steals. I've seen it, the field of public procurement is very apt for corruption. I've been saying it since 2005. If you're my friend I'll award you the contract and pay you ten times, a hundred times more than the market price", said the MEP.

Macovei added that this applies to all parties.

"I have no expectations of the Social Democratic Party. My expectations went to the Democrat Liberal Party. That is why, to me, what is going on with the democrat liberals is very serious. I find that they're doing the same things as everybody else".

Macovei was appointed Justice Minister in December 2004, in liberal Prime Minister Calin Popescu-Tariceanu's first Cabinet. She was dismissed by Tariceanu during the Government reshuffle aimed at ousting democrats in April 2007.

Macovei was elected MEP in 2009.
