Romanian Govt Seeks Alternative Spending Cut Solutions Not To Reduce Pensions

According to the sources, one of the proposed alternative solutions was to offer pensioners compensatory payment in 2011, if the country resumes economic growth, or slash pensions by 12%.

The sources said the Government failed to make a decision and talks on the issue will continue on Monday, the day the Executive seeks a vote of confidence for its austerity plan. Boc and other Government officials will also meet Sunday evening with democrat liberal lawmakers to talk on austerity measures.

Democrat liberal Sulfina Barbu told MEDIAFAX Friday the party made seven propositions to be included in the austerity plan. She said the propositions made by democrat liberals were debated on Friday and were approved by the finance minister, adding they will further be analyzed by the Government during a meeting Sunday.

The Government will seek a confidence vote in Parliament Monday to adopt an austerity plan that cuts wages, pensions and social welfare benefits and will face no-confidence motions promised by the opposition.
