The Romanian government on Wednesday set the levels of the 2008 minimum wage at 500 lei (EUR1-RON3.5260) for the first half of the year and RON540, for the second semester, respectively, ministry sources said.

The government decision clearly specifies the 2008 minimum wage will be hiked to RON540 if the economic indicators are within the margins forecasted by the National Forecast Commission, the mentioned sources said.
On Monday, Romanian authorities and representatives of the unions and employers’ associations agreed upon the levels of the sole minimum wage in 2008, setting them at RON500 and RON540, respectively.
