Romania’s health minister Eugen Nicolaescu and capital Bucharest general mayor Sorin Oprescu agreed Wednesday to create a working group to draw up a strategy to transfer hospitals to the subordination of local administrations and build homes for interns and young doctors.

"I hope it was a fruitful meeting,” Oprescu said, adding he and the minister decided to create a working group of the ministry and mayoralty to move hospitals into the subordination of local authorities. The two officials also discussed an older program of the ministry, which targeted the construction of homes for interns and young doctors.

Minister Nicolaescu said the working group has until Aug 31 to present a report on the healthcare strategy proposed Wednesday, and the program is to kick off Sept 1.
