Romanian Health Min Launches ‘What Hurts?’ Toll-Free Line For Complaints

“The medical system was stormed three days ago and I wish to clear one thing. I am a medic and I stand by the medics, the young doctors who remained in the country, who are doing their jobs, who stayed in hospitals and care for the patients. As a medic, though, I remember I took an oath to put the patient’s interests above my problems. Above all, this ministry is a Health ministry, it doesn’t belong to the minister. This ministry belongs to doctors and patients, not to clerks and procedures. This ministry must belong to the people,” Bazac said.

He said the toll-free phone line, called “What hurts”, is meant to improve the Romanian healthcare system.

“We want to heal not only patients, but the entire medical system in Romania. We want to receive calls from the patient who waited in line for one or two hours, despite that they could barely stand, but also the doctor who sees 50 patients a day and is buried in work. We want to receive calls from the patient who couldn’t find in their city a medic to take care of their problem, but also the doctor who has to work for 24 hours straight and the following regular working hours,” Bazac said.

Patients and doctors can call the 0800 800 885 toll-free number and address their complaints, he mentioned.

Bazac’s statements came three days after a 62-year old man has died while being moved around from one hospital to another, as medics were absent or they denied him assistance because his insurance papers were lost in the system.
