Romanian Health Min Says Is Baffled By President’s Ignorance

Romanian health minister Eugen Nicolaescu said in a press release Saturday that he regrets the head of state is using people’s pain to gain votes and is baffled that, after four years of office, the president has no idea what is going on in the country.

Earlier Saturday, during a visit to a hospital in Covasna, central Romania, President Traian Basescu criticized the management o f the country’s healthcare sector, saying the deplorable state of Romanian hospitals is hard to explain considering funds injected into healthcare have doubled since 2004.

Basescu said the Health Ministry preferred to focus on drugs, forgetting that a vital part of the system, hospitals, is in a very bad shape.
