“I fully agree with Prime Minister Boc. Moreover, I want to propose a 50% cut of the ministers' salaries. I am close to the private environment, I am aware of the country's current situation during crisis,” Bazac said.

He added this represents an act of responsibility on behalf of the dignitaries.

“Dignitaries should be the first ones to set an example in this respect. For example, the head of Chase Manhattan Bank set his wage at $1 throughout the crisis period,” Bazac said.

Romanian Prime Minister Emil Boc on Friday said he would propose all ministers to have their salaries cut by 20% from August until December, in a move to keep tighter grip on public spending, adding he will accept to have his salary cut.

Boc stressed, however, that the government would issue no order in this respect, adding ministers would make their own decisions in this respect.

Furthermore, Boc said he came up with the idea following talks on the way public funds are used, stressing the country’s economy is not that strong.
