Romanian Liberals Continue To Back Independent Johannis For PM

Romanian liberal head Crin Antonescu said Thursday the liberals continue to back Klaus Johannis for prime minister at least until September 2010, but a PDL-PNL government is out of the question.

"Our stance is steadfast - Klaus Johannis as prime minister. From our point of view, is the democrat liberals want to support Johannis, then the doors aren't shut. What is clear and unchanged for us is the support for Johannis and refusal of a political government in favor of a government backed by a consensual majority, with technicians, who would run the ministries with authorities and receive support from political parties," Antonescu said.

Antonescu went on saying that a potential Johannis government would go on at least until September 1, 2010".

Asked about the president's reply, the liberal said "he told us he will think about it and we will talk some more".

Also, Basescu did not offer any details on what other independent he would designate for the position of prime minister.
