Romanian New Generation Party Leader Votes “Against The Tyrant”

Romania’s Steaua owner, MEP and presidential candidate Gigi Becali said Sunday he is voting “against the tyrant”.

Becali, leader of the Christian Democratic New Generation Party, said he is running for president to rid the country of "the tyrant", later adding he hopes "God will give us the strength to vote for a president who will rid us of poverty."

Becali is well known for his religious rhetoric and far-right views, but also for the vigilantism accusations and kidnapping charges that caused him to spend some time under preventive arrest, as prosecutors were investigating claims that he took justice into his own hands and apprehended, then detained, three men he believed had stolen his luxury car. The trial is pending and Becali is currently investigated at large.
