Boc thanked Basescu for designating him for prime minister, adding he is aware of the responsibilities awaiting him.

"I accept the new term not to become more popular, but to do what is best for the Romania," said Boc, adding the country is in dire need of a new Government to adopt the state budget for 2010, the fiscal liability law and the unitary pension law, and continue reforming the state.

"I consider that, intertwining partnership and solidarity principles, we can make it through these difficult times that affect not only our country but the entire world, and together with politicians, parliament, with those that will govern the country and the opposition we will be able to offer Romania stability and prosperity," Boc said, adding he is also confident in a partnership with civil society, unions and the Church.

Boc also said the country's new Government will have fewer ministers that it currently has.

Asked about the format of the new Cabinet, Boc said it will have fewer ministers than it currently has "as 2010 is a difficult year and, if Romanians are required solidarity and responsibility, then the prime minister and the Government should set an example."

Boc said democrat liberals will have talks with all political parties that showed willing to form the Government, namely the Hungarian minority party, the national minorities' group and the independents' group.

Regarding the prospect liberals will agree to join in the Government, Boc said the propositions liberals were made are still valid and the door remains open.

Romania's newly reelected President Traian Basescu Thursday designated democrat liberal leader and acting Prime Minister Emil Boc to head the country's new government.

Boc's Cabinet collapsed in a no-confidence vote in Parliament in October after social democrats switched to opposition, but his government has remained in office with limited powers because the Parliament thumbed down the cabinet proposed by economist Lucian Croitoru and then refused to even hold a vote on a second prime minister-designate.
