Romanian "Noua Dreapta" Marches Against Homosexuality Ahead Of Gay Pride Parade

Demonstrators are carrying green flags with the organization’s logo and banners reading messages such as "Noua Dreapta against homosexuality and for normality” and “No to gay marriage and adoption".

The march started 50 minutes late and only about one hundred participants gathered instead of about 300 expected.

Participants said they wish to promote traditional family values, adding they want the Romanian Constitution, not just the Civil Code, to define marriage as the union between man and woman.

They also said they are demonstrating against abortion and against homosexuality and qualified the gay pride parade as “obscene and sexually explicit”.

The gay pride parade will start later in the afternoon and 500 people are expected to join the march.

Representatives of the "Accept" organization, which defends the rights of sexual minorities, said LGBTs in Romania continue to be discriminated against, harassed and considered second-rate citizens, which is unacceptable in a European country that claims to observe human rights.

The gay pride parade in Bucharest was marked by violent incidents during past editions.

This year’s pride parade and two other marches “for normality” will be supervised by 700 gendarmes and 400 police.
