Romanian PM Says Voted For Common Sense Parliament, Capable President

"I voted for a common sense Parliament both in terms of number of lawmakers and parliament structure and for a president capable of giving Romania back to Romanians and work for the public interest," said Boc, who is running the country's caretaker government ousted in a no-confidence vote mid-October.

Boc called on Romanians to exercise their right to vote. Voter turnouts at elections in Romania have decreased significantly from over 80% in 1990 to less than 30% in European Parliament elections this summer.

Boc is head of the Democratic Liberal party, which backs incumbent President Traian Basescu for a second five-year term.

About 18 million eligible voters are expected to cast ballots Sunday to elect a new president and say whether they want the country's Parliament downsized to a single chamber and a maximum 300 lawmakers instead of the current 471. Polls close at GMT1900.
