Romanian President Mulls New Territorial Division For The Country

Romanian President Traian Basescu said Thursday, at the meeting of the commission analyzing the Constitution, that the country’s territorial division is obsolete and should be changed.

The president asked commission members for as point of view on what should be revised in the Constitution to make the state functional and views on the country’s territorial division, which he considers obsolete.

Basescu said he would be more interested in views on division rather than ways to unlock institutional crises. The president said the country’s current division does not correspond to development needs and creates difficulties in absorbing European funds.
