Romanian President Traian Basescu on Wednesday signed the bill on the unitary public pension system into law.

The Constitutional Court had ruled that the pension law, reexamined and adopted by the Parliament at the president's request, is constitutional, rejecting a contestation filed by the Liberal Party, in opposition.
The bill had been adopted before, but Basescu had sent it back for reexamination, requesting that the retirement age be set at 63 for women and 65 for men. The Parliament complied and adopted the IMF-required pension bill on December 7. Changing the retirement age as per the President's request was the only amendment brought to the bill.
