Romanian President Traian Basescu is expected to address the Parliament on September 21, at 3 p.m., the Standing Offices of the Senate and the Chamber of Deputies decided Tuesday, following the president’s request.

Early last week, Basescu sent a letter to the heads of the two chambers of Parliament, informing them that he wishes to address lawmakers on September 21.
Basescu last addressed the Parliament on September 15, 2009, at the end of his first mandate as head of state. Basescu's speech at the time came after the Government had asked the lawmakers' confidence vote for the education law, the unitary salary law in the public sector and the law reorganizing public institutions and authorities. In his speech, Basescu saluted the "courage" of the then- Government and ruling coalition in struggling to modernize Romania.
