Two Romanian Sailors Kidnapped By Somali Pirates

“The Romanian Embassy in Athens is in constant talks with the company that owns the ship captured in Somali waters and that takes steps to have the ship and crew released. The intel we have received indicates all crew members, including the two Romanian nationals, are safe and unhurt,” Serbanescu said.

On February 22, Somali pirates seized the Saldanha Greek-operated ship while carrying coal through the Gulf of Aden.

The 22-member crew included two Romanians, namely ship captain Adrian Hududui and fitter Marius Strambeanu, 19 Philippines and one Ukrainian.

The captain’s wife, who says she has been talking to her husband every day since their capture, claims Hududui told her the prisoners’ situation was serious, as the kidnappers use drugs and have weapons.
