Senators adopted a legislative initiative amending Government Ordinance no. 105/1999 on giving rights to people persecuted by political regimes between September 6, 1940 and March 6, 1945 based on ethnic grounds,.
According to the legislative initiative, all people who were persecuted no matter if the localities where they took refuge, where they were deported or relocated are under Romanian jurisdiction of that of some other states, will receive indemnities stipulated by the ordinance.
The ordinance considers the people who were deported or relocated to other localities, who were deported to ghettos or concentration camps abroad, who were deprived of freedom in prisons or concentration camps, or who had to take refuge as persecuted people.
People who had to work in forced labor camps, who were evicted from their properties, who were survivors of the death train, or had their spouse executed or assassinated based on ethnic reasons are beneficiaries of the provisions stipulated by the Government ordinance.
The legislative initiative, which received a favorable report from the labor, family and social protection committee, was debated by the Senate and is pending debates in the Chamber of Deputies.
