Romanian Senators Unanimously Enact Animal Protection Law

The legislative proposal amending Law 205/2004 on animal protection was unanimously voted by the Senate.
The initiator of this law, independent senator Marius Marinescu, said that more than half of Romanians love animals, thus, the law he initiated is highly necessary as it punishes any kind of cruel treatments against animals, "by applying huge fines and even throwing culprits into jail."
The representatives of the legislative groups said they would back this draft law.
Under the law, all those who own either pets or other animals must treat them well, provide at least the minimum living conditions and they must not abandon or chase them away. Under no circumstances are they allowed to torture them or apply cruel treatments.
