Romanian Social Democrat Leader To Challenge President’s Decision For PM At Constitutional Court

Romanian social democrat leader Mircea Geoana said Thursday, after President Traian Basescu appointed Lucian Croitoru as prime minister, the head of state will thus prolong and deepen the crisis, adding he might challenge the president’s decision at the Constitutional Court.

"Traian Basescu deepens and prolongs crisis," said Geoana, adding the president deliberately appointed a candidate that is not backed by Parliament.

Geoana added that since the prime minister assigned by Basescu has no support in Parliament, the president's decision is a "political bluff".

Romanian President Traian Basescu on Thursday nominated Lucian Croitoru, an advisor to the central bank Governor, as Prime Minister.

Croitoru will replace democrat liberal Emil Boc whose Cabinet lost Parliament confidence Tuesday.
