Senators adopted, with amendments, an initiative to amend Ordinance 58/1998 regarding the organization and running of the tourism activity in Romania. Senators added a definition of a traditional house.

The traditional house is defined as the tourist lodging structure, with a capacity of up to five rooms, which is the actual home of the citizen living in the rural area and follows the regional architectural style.

According to the amended act, the house's owner handles the tourism activity directly, without employees, and offers guests the opportunity to take part in farming, housekeeping and craft activities, and in the traditional day-to-day life of the region.

The amended law states that this activity is seasonal, carried out especially during the summer, winter holidays, Easter and other specific holidays.

The draft law is now pending debates in the Chamber of Deputies.
