Romanian sergeant Eugen Manaila was injured in the right leg Friday morning in Afghanistan during a patrol mission, the Romanian Defense Ministry said, adding he underwent emergency surgery and is now stable.

Romanian Troop Injured In Patrol Mission In Afghanistan

One troop in the 33 Maneuver Batallion deployed in Afghanistan was injured Friday morning during a patrol mission on the A1 highway linking Kabul and Kandahar. The patrol car ran over an improvised explosive device 20 kilometers southwest of Qalat, in Zabul province, the Defense Ministry said in a statement.

The ministry added Manaila was injured in the right leg and was immediately taken to hospital and operated. Manaila is currently stable.

Romania currently has 1,025 troops in Afghanistan mainly in the Zabul province, part of the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force. Romania's highest defense body decided recently to deploy 600 additional troops to Afghanistan.
