Romanian TV Host Teo Trandafir Wins Lawmaker Seat – Preliminary Results

Romanian TV host Teo Trandafir obtained 53.59% of the votes in Sunday’s by-election for a lawmaker seat and conservative Liliana Minca got 46.41% of the votes, according to results released Monday by the Bucharest Electoral Bureau after counting ballots in 50 of 61 polling stations.

Trandafir, running on behalf of the country's ruling Democratic Liberal Party, garnered 6,473 votes, while Minca earned 5,605 votes.

Electoral Bureau spokesman Iulian Ivan said the final result of Sunday's by-elections for a lawmaker seat in the Chamber of Deputies will be made public Monday at noon, after the counting of ballots in the 11 remaining polling stations.

Ivan said voter turnout was of 14.65%, namely just 12,263 out of more than 100,000 voters registered in the constituency.

The lawmaker seat for the 19th constituency in Bucharest has been vacant since February, when conservative Daniela Popa left Parliament to join the board of directors of the country's insurance regulator.
