Secretary Clinton, Romanian FM Baconschi To Sign U.S.-Romanian Ballistic Missile Defense Agreement

U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Romanian Foreign Minister Teodor Baconschi Tuesday will sign the agreement on the deployment of the U.S. Ballistic Missile Defense System in Romania, according to a press release on the U.S. Department of State website.

The signing will take place in Washington, at the Department of State.

The legally-binding agreement will allow for the establishment and operation of a U.S. land-based SM-3 ballistic missile defense system in Romania.

Romanian President Traian Basescu left for a working visit to Washington Monday night and is expected to sign a series of bilateral agreements.

The Romanian head of state is accompanied by the ministers of defense, foreign affairs, the heads of the country's intelligence services and the U.S. ambassador to Bucharest.
